The first Qld Magpies function went off with a bang last night. Nearly 200 people gathered into the Beer Garden of the Broadway Hotel to join together and support this great club of ours.   The function ran for about 2 hours and so far the feedback has been very positive. Ronnie Wearmouth was our special guest and the love he has for the club really showed. He seemed very proud to be a part of this and was not shy in attending to all the wishes for autographs and photos from anyone that approached him. After talking to him this evening he said "The show was better than the game", and "you nearly turned a couple of mates" in reference to a couple of Lions friends he brought into the function. He turned up running a little late in thongs and cap, hoping not to disappoint instead of going to his room and changing beforehand. His laid back nature really infected those around him and he made a lot of people very happy.   In trying to help recreate the passion that once surrounded the Cricketers Arms Hotel with Joffa and his prematch speeches, I thought it was time those in Brissie got a feel of what they have been missing. Joffa was more than accomodating and delivered a rousing speech that brought the place to a climax. Many said that if the Collingwood Football Team had have heard his speech, maybe the result would have been different.   I am thankful to all those people that helped out and hopefully this is the start of something special in this state. We can make this group bigger and better in the years to come and we hope to do so. Let everyone know that the Qld Magpies are serious about building a passionate and committed environment for Magpies lovers to converge and grow together. Of the almost 200 there last night there was about 65 of our 78 members there, this is one area we will build on, and after a function like this one, people know we now mean business, and this should improve in our sophomore year.
